Muslim-friendly Facilities Rewarded

HKCEC is proud to be the first organisation in the city to win accreditation for its customised facilities catering to the needs of the global Muslim community. The Gold Certification – the highest of its kind – was awarded to HML in February for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) venues.

Singapore-based, internationally recognised halal travel promotion company CrescentRating accredited the HKCEC as a Muslim-friendly MICE venue in December; Gold Certification is the highest ranking level in CresentRating’s scheme. This award reflects the good experience that the centre has created for Muslim exhibitors and visitors, namely the provision of a quiet and appropriate place at a convenient location for event attendees who wish to pray. A new prayer room with separate male and female prayer spaces is located on Level 2 of the HKCEC. Ablution facilities and water-friendly washrooms are also available next to the prayer room.  HML has secured Halal certified suppliers to provide Halal certified food at concession stands for event participants and also on request.

CrescentRating was commissioned by the Hong Kong Tourism Board to carry out a series of activities, including assessing local hotels, attractions and MICE venues based on categories and standards on par with stringent international benchmarks.

The award recognises HML’s efforts in support of the Hong Kong government’s initiatives to promote Muslim-friendly business activities and tourism.  It is expected that many international exhibitions and conferences held at the HKCEC will attract increasing numbers of Muslim exhibitors, buyers and visitors, especially those from the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia.
