Web Access Success

The Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme has granted the HKCEC website, www.hkcec.com, its Triple Gold Award in recognition of HML’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. Website accessibility is highlighted as a priority by the website, so that its content is easily available to everyone, including those with visual impairment.

The award requires that an eligible website must fulfil 27 judging criteria for a Gold Award, and must attain this for three consecutive scheme years to receive the Triple Gold Award. The HKCEC website has now attained it four times: 2016, 2018-2019, 2020-2021 and 2022-2023.

To fulfil the requirements, for example, all 1,000 photos and graphics are supplemented by alternate text descriptions, and over 50 PDF files with venue technical information or location maps have undergone treatment by special software, so the visually impaired can read the images with their own reading devices. Some graphics have to be explained by text, such as the road map, which is supplemented by a pure text version in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. The scheme is organised by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited and co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, with the Equal Opportunities Commission as the independent advisor.
