Good news for the industry: not only is the current government subsidy scheme being extended, but it will be followed by a new initiative. There is no doubt that the Convention and Exhibition Industry Subsidy Scheme, operated under the Anti-epidemic Fund by the HKSAR government and launched in 2020, has provided a much welcome boost in these extremely challenging times. The scheme is now being extended once more, to run up to 30 June 2023.
With this commitment to continue to support the convention and exhibition industry, which makes a significant contribution to the HKSAR economy, the government has taken the strategic decision to launch a new $1.4 billion scheme, which will commence on 1 July 2023 and run for three years. This fresh initiative will subsidise recurrent exhibitions being staged in Hong Kong.
This extended support will help raise organisers’ confidence in holding convention and exhibition activities, and provide impetus to the players in this sector, as well as consolidate and enhance Hong Kong’s status as an international convention and exhibition hub.
The Convention & Exhibition Industry Subsidy Scheme, launched with a commitment of $1.07 billion has rendered much-needed support. Up to 30 September 2022 it had subsidised 175 exhibitions with a total of about $467 million.
HML will be happy to assist event organisers in applying for the new subsidy once the mechanism is announced. Application guidelines and forms are available at
