The organisers of Art Basel described the 2023 edition of the show as “resonant” amid reports of vigorous sales and strong attendance. The success underlined Hong Kong’s pivotal role as the hub of the Asian art market.

For the first time since 2019, the event was staged across two floors of the HKCEC. The number of participating galleries increased from 130 the previous year to 177; 42 returned after a pandemic-enforced break, while 22 were making their debut. All the special sectors made a welcome return, including Kabinett, Film and Conversations, as well as Encounters, which is dedicated to monumental installations – HKCEC is perfectly equipped to handle the staging of such massive pieces. 

The show attracted 86,000 visitors, including many from overseas. Among them were established private collectors, museum directors, curators and patrons from over 100 international museums and institutions.
