HML launched Green @ HKCEC, its first-ever food waste collection campaign, at the Hong Kong Book Fair held from 19 to 25 July. The initiative is part of the policy of taking on the leadership of influencing stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, business partners and visitors.
During the immensely popular seven-day Book Fair, HML put in place nine sets of waste sorting and recycling bins, for food waste, waste paper, aluminium can, plastic, glass bottles, beverage cartons, general waste, at food courts for visitors and exhibitors. HML’s green ambassadors rewarded visitors with free popcorn if they did the waste separation correctly at the Waste Recycling Zone. The campaign received huge support from exhibitors and visitors with almost 2,300kg of food waste collected. The food waste was sent to O・Park1, the HKSAR Government’s food waste processing facility, for upcycling into energy.
The Green@HKCEC food waste collection campaign continued at other public shows including Ani-com & Games HK, Hong Kong High-End Audio-Visual Show and Hong Kong Food Fair. HML is glad to see more and more event organisers willing to implement food waste and waste recycling at their shows.
